‘Something and nothing
Nowhere and some place
One of the human kind
Part of the rat race….’
These are the opening lines of the new Syn album, Big Sky. Having spent the last two weeks recording final vocals with Francis Dunnery and Dorie Jackson in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of New York State, I can now safely say the lyrics are set in stone.
Last night, back in New York City, I met up with the design team behind the brilliant 'Big Sky' graphics and animation to thank them for their work and deliver the final album lyrics.
It’s been a great 2 weeks as Francis generates such incredible energy both as a musician and friend.
He is an amazing person to be around, both creatively and spiritually; what a talent!
Dorie Jackson has been a wonderful edition to the album; she has the voice of an angel!
Meanwhile, The Syn's official discussion forum's first release '14 Hour Technicolour Dream: The V-band Project' went to #1 on the Amazon. com Video-on-Demand 'Concerts' music chart, a fantastic achievement for all concerned. This video records the making of the song I wrote and sung with them called “Reasons and Rituals” and was made in unison with the making of Big Sky - a truly unique interaction between a band and its fan-base. The actual “Making of Big Sky” video will be released on Amazon any day now as well as part of Umbrello's 'Mod Prog' series.
So, with Big Sky almost ready to release, I played the roughs to one of the leading journalists in progressive music, Robert Silverstein.
He responded by describing it as ‘probably the most significant album I’ll hear this year in any genre!’
We’re a couple of weeks away from final mixing and mastering and on target for an initial 24th February pre-release special edition of Big Sky to be available at the soon-to-be-launched Big Sky multi-media page.
It’s going to be a great year!
‘…..love is the reason we’re alive.
’ (the last line of Big Sky)
